Aston Martin DB5 πŸ•΅πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

The iconic Aston Martin DB5 made infinitely more famous by James Bond πŸ•΅πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

This acrylic painting is a collaborative work with fellow car artist @eddies_car_illustrations on Instagram who kindly let me use his linework as a basis for this experiment. This is his original digital drawing.

As you can see, the outlines are pretty much identical but quite a different end result.

This really was an experiment for me, as you’ll see below I added layers of increasingly dark colour with masking in-between. I didn’t know how it would look before taking off the mask.

The intention was for it to be quite “rough” as a contrast to Eddie’s original with it’s “digital perfection” even though neither are intended to be photo-realistic. Eddie’s car is shown with his kind permission πŸ‘

If you haven’t already checked out the artwork of @eddies_car_illustrations please do – he has a unique style of artwork that represents the cars so well without unnecessarily chasing after something that looks overly photo realistic. Inspirational work here πŸ†

And you may be wondering why the rapper Notorious BIG is in these last photos.

It’s because that was my very first acrylic painting in March 2020 and this one is just over a year later. Quite a size difference, and at A2 this is my largest painting so far.

    • Thanks Jacob, yes the colour doesn’t feature on Bond’s car at all but I liked it so in it went πŸ™‚

Besides “Prussian Blue” sounds like a remnant of a bygone cold war era with spies going about their spying behind enemy lines 😁
