Les toits en ardoise de Paris ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท

This is another attempt to add colour to an old sketch.

The original drawing was from the balcony of my hotel in La Madeleine, Paris. I had the Paris marathon the following day but couldn’t sleep so I decided to put my time to better use and relax with a sketch.

This was watercolour painted over graphite. I have a water dissolvable graphite pencil in my case so it was a tentative start on colouring this in case I turned it into a grey blob ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I don’t think this went quite as well as the previous overpainted sketches. I mentioned before that this sketchbook isn’t really geared up for watercolour.

It really noticed doing this one – the paint soaking straight into paper.

Side by side comparison

There’s definitely an advantage to using proper watercolour paper if you intend doing a painting rather than an afterthought like this. Though to be fair to myself, I did draw this two years before I started painting so I wasn’t to know.

    • Wow, that was quick Alison. You replied before I got the notification I’d posted ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Thankfully I hadn’t used the soluble graphite, just a regular pencil. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

      • Ha ha Iโ€™m watching the football on the tv with my husband… I donโ€™t like football….does that explain my quick response

      • Ha! Well I can understand that would need distraction, cannot stand anything about football. Je dรฉteste le foot, as some would say in Paris ๐Ÿ˜
